About:

The recent publication of the Farm2Fork Strategy as part of the European Green Deal paves the road for an ambitious transformation of the EU food system to address climate, health and social issues. In particular, the protein transition towards a more plant-based diet is essential to reduce the environmental pressures currently exerted by livestock productions (GHG emissions, biodiversity loss, etc.). Yet, such a transition will entail a considerable reorganization of food value chains and thus raises significant socio-economic challenges, especially within the animal and feed sectors. There are also opportunities to explore the role of aquaculture farming systems in the protein transition. It is crucial to identify viable transition pathways for European food value chains.

In this context, two multi-stakeholder discussion series were held between November 2020 and May 2021 with high-level representatives of the European food system - including agrifood businesses, policymakers, researchers, and civil society. This webinar will unpack the main outcomes of these discussions and discuss the challenges and policy issues at play for three key food value chains - dairy, legumes and salmon.
